Edgewater is OK, just not too trendy or exciting.

...
Andersonville is in of Edgewater.

Northeastern has a far better reputation now than in did in the early-mid 90's.
We used to call it a Mickey Mouse college where anyone with a half a brain could get all A's...

It is far tougher now and (has gained) is gaining much respect since then

You really do not need a car. If you ever need one just use one of the hourly rental car places.

Default moving to Andersonville

I'm planning on attending NEIU in January and I've been reading up on Andersonville which looks pretty cool and the rent is pretty nice, but I'm having a bit of trouble finding a furnished apartment. Do you guys know if there is an Ikea or other company that rents or sells furniture near there?

There is an IKEA located in the the northwestern suburbs of Chicago. It'll be about a 20-25 mile drive.

Small correction.... I just moved to the border of Rogers Park/Edgewater and it's actually getting much more trendy/exciting than in recent years!!!! I would still prefer Andersonville (yes, I know, which is part of Edgewater), but just wanted to reframe my previous comment.

As long as everyone still thinks Kenmore/Winthrop is sketchy and that my part of Edgewater is 'boring', my rent will stay cheap... so everybody move to Andersonville and be hip!!! Thanks, heh.
