Maplewood on North and Western. Not sure what neighborhood that is and how is it to live over there?

The neighborhood is Humboldt Park (but you'll sometimes hear it called West Wicker Park or West Bucktown - which are both completely fake names made up by realtors to sell condos)

The area is OK. The typical thought is to "stay east of Western," but I feel if you are going to live west of Western, being north of North is better.

Most shopping and entertainment options are in Wicker Park, which is a fairly short walk east of you.

If I were a man, I probably wouldn't think twice, though as a woman I'd have concerns about walking from the el at night.

If you can afford something east of Western, then I would do that instead, but you'll probably be just fine.

I would look at everyblock.com which has crime reports near any intersection. It's really going to depend on your comfort level.

In sum, I'd say it's definitely not my first choice of neighborhood, but it's also certainly not my last.
