It has a great undergrad program though! That is what I don't understand. Tied for 3rd best in the country...

I have to admit, I didn't know Chicago State University existed until I moved to Chicago, and even then I didn't know where it was until I accidentally drove by it once. I always knew about U of Chicago, though. How does anyone think those are related?

I think the generic name is an issue, as with the University of Pennsylvania ("oh, you mean Penn State?"). Maybe they should have named it Rockefeller University after the founder.

Groundbreaking research in academia nearly always comes from graduate programs and their faculty.
This not to say that U of C doesn't also have great undergraduate programs (they do), but that is not what they have historically been
most known for. In fact they have far more graduate and professional students (10,000) than undergraduate students (6,000), which is very rare even among top-ranked research universities.

Who confuses Ivy League Penn with state school Penn State? I find that even harder to believe than people in Chicago having not heard of U of C.
