I got an eye exam at Walmart and had them measure my pupid distance PID. Then I took the prescription and ordered 2 pair from Zenni Optical. It was $40 for the exam and $20 for the glasses. The only disadvantage is you have to wait two weeks to get the glasses from Zenni.

Watch the newpapers, or search online for eyeglass sales. Periodically I will see a JC Penney, Perle Vision, or other optical sale. I've seen many where you can get the exam and the eyeglass frames and lenses for $99.

Good luck.
