LOL...even if it is dumpy inside, it still seems like a good deal.

Ha. Yeah.

The studio is actually a wooden crate dangling precariously from the roof, suspended a fraying rope.

But still. Sounds pretty nice.

Also, that sucks about your friend, alwaystraveling. For people working downtown, living on Goethe would be amazing. Nice and close. For those working in the burbs? Not so much.

Studios are hard to sell. They are easy to rent, but most buyers want a at least a one bedroom for a semi-permanent place. If you think its enough room, its a great price. If I recall correctly, that building had a really nice outdoor pool. Nice restaurant on the first floor too.

I don't know. I would live in my studio forever if it had a full kitchen. some of them in my building do, but I can't afford a bigger one right now.

I'm not knocking studios, but they are harder to resell.

Its a really, really great neighborhood. You are close to the lake, park, nightlife, and restaurants. Public transportation is fabulous(several different bus lines w/i 3 blocks, and the el). I used to live down the street from that building and it had a very good reputation.

It used to be a better neighborhood. Now it's almost becoming a retirement community!

I think I'd be more concerned with the retiree boring-ness. The Gold Coast has lost a lot of it's pulse (which has shifted north to Lincoln Park and Lakeview or south to River North). The Viagra Triangle and the bars of Rush/Division are now filled with conventioneers and suburban bachelorette parties, and are embarassing places to be spotted by friends. "Oh, what are YOU doing here"...

Default Gold Coast retirees

Watch out for the retirees and their loud televisions.

Great area, though definitely and older, more established crowd.
