I agree with you.

Also, the crime is localized to a few zip codes that no one really even cares about. Let the trash kill each other over drugs. That is what they are, trash.

By the way, don't really want to get into a gun argument, but the handgun ban is preventing the law abiding citizens of Chicago from protecting themselves. Obviously, the ban isn't working for criminals.

First, by not being an uncaring dick like some posters around here. Beyond that, I don't have to explain or enumerate my community involvement to you or anyone else. It's not a bragging contest.

Community involvement to me is actually suggesting real solutions to our problems instead of posturing. How about involving the national guard in our city? How about electing republicans, or at least people who aren't corrupt for a change? How about lifting bans on self-protection?

I'm guessing this is going to go no where, but you really think that everyone that lives in a bad neighborhood is trash? The little old ladies riding on the bus to get their groceries? The guy taking the train at 5 am to get to work up north? The people who have lived in neighborhoods for years only to watch them decline, but have no way of moving out?

I've lived in some of these neighborhoods that "no one really even cares about" and I can tell you that most of the people there are not trash and are horrified by what they see happening around them as they try to raise their families and make their livings. People not caring is exactly the problem. Say what you will, but I was horrified when millennium park got built, knowing kids grow up in some neighborhoods in chicago without so much as a playground that's safe to be in.

I don't think a handgun ban will stop murders entirely. Gangs and criminals will still probably get a gun somehow. And you can kill people with baseball bats and knives.

And we're in a recession, so crime is going up pretty much everywhere.

Because none of that will help one iota. Well, except for the corruption thing.

In the UK, which has a handgun ban obviously, knife murders are highly common and there are now talks about banning people from carrying knives!

Things are definitely getting much worse. I've spent my life on the far southwest side, and just a couple years ago we didn't have gang violence here. Over the past 1-2 years, there have been at least a dozen gang related shootings near Pulaski, between the Stevenson and 87th St., plus several other shootings elsewhere in the area. At least one person was killed just sitting in traffic when they got caught in the crossfire, so the gang bangers are most certainly NOT just killing each other. And of course Marquette Park hasn't been safe to visit for at least a decade. Things are not good.

And it's only going to get worse as the younger generation continues to grow up with little to no parenting and the public schools keep swirling the toilet.
