Yeah Mappy, we lived in Resurrection on Jackson Blvd and it's gone. I was baptized at Lady of Sorrows, it's still there.

Msgr. Gorman was the pastor at Resurrection and he buried Al Capone, the story is nobody else was willing. I don't know if it's true but it sounds like Gorman.

So have you published the photos you took? Are any online?

I'm also in the ex-Catholic category, and was raised in an area (the outskirts of NYC) with few Protestants. I didn't even know Protestants existed until like the fourth grade.

When I was a kid, maybe 7 or 8, I went on something of a presidential history kick and I heard that Kennedy was the only Catholic president. So I thought to myself "Oh, so the rest of them must've been Jewish."

Nope, I've never published them, Tom. I did have a few online a few years ago. I should put them back. OLS is a beautiful church. Very friendly, too.

St. Mary of the Angels is beautiful. It's one of the few churches in the country that has the Stations of the Cross in stained glass. Unfortunately it's run by Opus Dei, and they are way too conservative for me.

I belong to St. Hedwig's which is also truly gorgeous. Sadly, there was a fire back in April, and the church has been closed, and having Mass in the gym since then. Supposedly the church will be reopened by Thanksgiving.

St. Mary of the Lake in Buena Park is quite nice, I've discovered. My wife's family is Catholic, so I've been there for a couple of masses.

Chalk my wife up as another "ex-Catholic"...

Actually I'm ex-Catholic myself, but I do enjoy Catholic religious art and architecture.

^^Have you been to the Cathedral Basilica in St. Louis? They have the largest mosaic collection in the world. It can really take ones breath away. Like I said, I'm an ex-Catholic now, but it's a beautiful place and I am still glad I had an opportunity to be confirmed there by the archbishop.

Haven't been there yet, but I'll check it out. Thanks for the suggestion.
