Hello!
My boyfriend and I are looking to move to Chicago in about a year. We are from central Indiana, and neither of us have ever visited Chicago before. We will be coming in October to look around and get a feel for the city. We were wondering what are the best areas to look for an apartment at. He will be going to an art school downtown, full time and I will be working full-time, hopefully in the marketing/advertising/pr field. We are both in our early 20's and looking for somewhere safe to live. Being from a small town where we leave our car doors unlocked and aren't worried, we know that this is going to be a change for us (but we are really excited about it!) So if anyone out there could give us some advice on where to live and places to go that would be great and we would greatly appreciate it!
Thank you SO much!

Chicago's a great city and I hope you both love it. Check out the very first thread in the Chicago forum: "Read this First - It's about the neighborhoods and Moving to Chicago".
It has some great information which should be really helpful.

My personal preference for 20 somethings who want a safe, fun area is Lakeview. You can walk to the Lake/Park in minutes and have tons of sidewalk life and people out and about at all hours and you have a choice of express buses on Lake Shore Drive and through the Park to reach the Loop/downtown/Michigan Avenue areas and also the el(subway train). Certainly there are other good neighborhoods depending upon your budget. I think the thread will help you. Good luck.

The rent you want to pay is going to greatly determine your neighborhood recommendation. Give us some more info and thne when you come in October, you could walk around some of the various neighborhoods.
As dsimicata said though, check out the first thread

Default more info

Thanks for the advice! I am sorry that I am such an idiot, I didn't even see the first thread! We haven't really decided on rent yet...but obviously we want to stay as cheap as possible but yet in a decent area. We aren't looking for a huge apartment, a small studio would work just as good. Also if you have any recommendations on where to stay (hotels) when we come in October would be great. And anything else that we may want to visit while we are up there! Thans everyone!
