The worse part is that the Garfield stop on the Green Line is about two stories above street level so the woman was out of breath when she got to the top. I held the train door open to wait for her.
wow brings back the memory on the ashland bus
was gunna get off and take the green line on 63rd/ashland
but was like NO WAY
the southside is fine

It's sad that some people are too afraid to venture out of their comfort zones. There aren't too many neighborhoods in Chicago that I have not explored, on any side of this town. There are some neighborhoods on the south side that are too dangerous for even me, such as Englewood or Back of the Yards, but many neighborhoods are relatively safe.

Since this thread just got bumped, I might as well ask, since it's kind of relevant: what's the best way to drive east out of Midway Airport (I'm heading over to Indiana)?

My flight gets into MDW around 11 p.m., and Google Maps directs me directly through Englewood over to the Dan Ryan. Based on this thread, it sounds like that wouldn't be a great route to take at night.

Anyone have a safer route to take? I guess I could take 55-South to 294 and loop around, but that seems out of the way.

If that makes you uncomfortable you should just take Cicero Ave to 55 north to the dan ryan, and then head south and grab 90 at the split. At 11pm there won't be any traffic. It will be quick even though you loop around a little.

I do not think 294 is too out of the way. It depends where you are going in Indiana though.
