A white cop got murdered by a black man a few weeks ago in Englewood.

Last time I looked all hell did not break loose.

I actually live in West Englewood and have had conversations with the local gang/drug dealers in the area. There is a defenite fear of anything happening to anybody white in the hood. That instance you speak of is about as rare as that black sniper incident a few years ago. In other words, it rarely happens. A dead white person in the hood is about as feared as a black hangin from a noose in Lincoln park!

It never ceases to amaze me how people can't admit how crappy their neighborhood is.

I'm speaking of violent crime in majority black neighborhoods are against other blacks. The fear of driving through a bad neighborhood in a 2 ton vehicle on your way to the expressway is ludacris. Most likely, if you obey your city instincts, nothing will happen to you!

I don't think people realize how many white people (thousands I would guess) with young white kids drive through englewood every day (e.g. Vincennes from the Ryan to beverly). Nothing ever happens to anyone. It's a non-issue. Don't move there and don't take a long walk through the neighborhood. Stopping and getting gas, a quick trip to the store, and a drive through in the day or early evening, especially on the main streets -- no big deal.

The area is very dangerous. I know some may laugh at this, but believe it or not the area has actually gotten alot worse over the past few years. The area was starting to show some real promise with the new kennedy king college campus and all. It's all of the vacant properties and the crime that those vacant properties have brought in. This has caused even more landlords to be absentee and hesitant to even drive by and check on there properties. They really need to clean the place up.

Yeah, that's part of why I recommended the highway. Also, it's probably more dangerous if you don't know the area, could make a wrong turn and have trouble getting back on the main route.
