I have a question: will things ever get so bad that the CTA decides to scrap the free ride program, or at least make drastic revisions so fewer people qualify? or are they afraid all the angry old people will storm their offices? or is this something they just can't do for other reasons?

the whole doomsday crap last winter had me on edge and, even though I live closer to a train than I did before, don't want to go through that again. plus, I'm worried if the problem persists, costs will go up a lot, especially UPass prices (if they threaten to raise UPass prices by more than 30% or to get rid of the program all together, I will personally round up every single college student in this city and cause a riot that will grind this city to a halt! they shall know our fury! )

I was under the impression that it was written into the law. So, essentially, the state would have to revoke it. I could be wrong though.

Yes. Although if the state did revoke it, I doubt they'd see much of any backlash, considering that when Blago dropped it in there, seniors were angry at him for doing so.

One of the few joys during the last 'doomsday' scenario was the photo op where Rod thought he'd go to a senior center and feel the cuddly effects of his pandering. Instead, they were outwardly hostile towards him and his last second decision to demand that provision.
