Your city has not been hit as hard as New York and other places. If your finance industry can open more jobs in functions such as sales & trading, you have all the means to close the gap with New York. The talent pool that is jobless is a very talented one and if hired to work in Chicago these people will pump tons of money into your local economy. I'm talking bars, restaurants, expensive downtown luxury apartments, shows, etc.

Just my 2 cents.

I worked @ the Board of Trade for 5 years, it's pretty cut throat now.
I wouldn't wish anyone get involved over there.

There are hundreds of Chicago jobs with the two firms in the news right now, and they're looking about as good in Chicago as they are in New York. The amount of construction in the city has almost died, next years budget is a huge mess and we almost lead the country in metro unemployment.

I'm just hoping we can hold together what we've gained the past 12 years!

Architects are the "canary in the coal mine" for economic troubles. And as long as we weren't too involved in condo projects, we're generally doing fine in Chicago. We're busy, but we're not exactly hiring a lot of people. For the time being, our economy is still strong.
