People switched to Meth... Crack sells dropped, so homicides in the burbs went up because that's where Meth addicts get their drugs

Suspect Chic's Loop/GoldCoast/LincPk are as safe as Manhattan's comparable areas....i.e., common-sense approaches (drive self around in own car, rent/buy home in safe area, etc) mean any upper middle-income guy has near-zero risk of exposure to crime...

Doubt anyone really cares about rates of violent crime in economically irrelevant parts of any region....most taxpayers prefer finite police resources be focused on preventing crime in areas of region where generous taxpayers actually live/work/visit

So you're suggesting that the Chicago Police should simply abandon the rest of the city? Give me a break. Your comment sounds pretty elitist if you ask me.

Its people like you represent the worst of Chicagos gentrified elite. I know this may sound inappropriate on the forum but that statement sounds like ignorant trash.

Chicago will always be half-Detroit until its crime rate/gang/drugs are on the level of Toronto, and will NOT have earned the right to brag!

Has HSW been around since I said I thought I saw him and his car? I don't think I've seen him (and his sentences -- or lack there of -- are pretty hard to miss)

Shouldn't police coverage be proportional to the amount of tax dollars your community pays? That's how school funding works - I don't see any reason why other public services should be any different.

There's no such thing as a free lunch. These services cost a lot of money and you have to pay for them.

And who cares if someones comments are elitest? Why is that such a bad term? Isn't the root of the word "elite" - do you not want to be "elite"?

No. I shouldn't even have to explain all the ways THAT would be a horrible idea.

Because elitists are generally cocky, arrogant douchebags that look down on anyone that they feel is "hoi polloi" and not on their level.
