Hi All,

I just got back from a trip to Chicago and really loved the city. I am graduating college in May and am considering a potential move to Chicagoland. Can someone tell me how the job market is for entry level marketing/advertising jobs? Does anyone have any recommendations as to how I can go about looking for a job since I am from out of state? I would like to secure a job before moving there if possible.

Thanks for the insight!

if you're interested in advertising, what area are you planning to go into? creative, account management or media?

also as recent college grad, headhunters will probably not be of much help. start by doing research on some advertising forums. talentzoo.com as a message board and also places people. ihaveanidea.org is good message board as well. start there.

Chicago is one of the major marketing and advertising centers of the US, and there are entry level jobs at a lot of agencies of all different sizes. If you are interested in a marketing/advertising job Chicago, NY, and LA are the best U.S. cities to check out.
Internships are the most common way to get an entry level job, but you could also try contacting your professors/college career office to find out if any alumni from your college are currently employed at an agency in Chicago.
There are a number of temp firms that specialize in marketing and advertising - Paladin, Artisan, and Creative Circle come to mind. They mostly place people in production/creative temp jobs, but also handle account and project management positions. You might also want to consider taking an advertising class in Chicago to try to make some connections and use the career office of a local school.

I know what you mean. I recently started working at Vivid Ascent Integrated Marketing Agency - Chicago, IL - and before that I did most of my job hunting online. Craigslist is a great place to start. My advice would be to network as much as you can before you move here!

SAIC(School of the Art Institute of Chicago) Columbia College, American Academy of Art, The Illinois Institute of Art Chicago, Robert Morris College, North Park University, DePaul University, Loyola University Chicago. All great schools for a marketking/advertising degree. Two of my brothers went to SAIC and they are doing good right now.

Be careful with those "for profit" schools.
