The guy is a relative; the date is late 1920s; the locale is Chicago, supposedly Lincoln Park. We can't identify the statue, which may have been moved.

Does anyone recognize it?

I do not recognize it. Perhaps you could check with a historical society, there are several in the Chicagoland area.

It sort of looks like it is in a cemetery. You know Lincoln Park was once a cemetery. Perhaps they did not move the statue yet at the time the picture was taken...

If anything,if it is still in Lincoln Park I am willing to bet it is somewhere between Armitage and North Ave, east of Clark of course.

Off to the left it almost looks like there is a car, so you'd have to factor in wherever it was there was a driveway or something (if it is a car)

I have lots of old postcards from Chgo., but unfortunately none showing this particular statue. Will admit I was sort of hooked this a.m. so I checked around on the internet and couldn't find anything.

I saw a list of statues that are in Lincoln Park and didn't see a description that matched and doesn't mean the list I saw was complete.

There was supposed to be a statue of 2 women in Garfield Park (from 1935) but couldn't find a picture or who did the statue.

Being into postcards (deltiology), I checked the Chicago Post Card Museum and couldn't find anything helpful.

I had fun trying though!

Default Statue Identification

Your relative is standing at the base of the statue to the scientist Linne. The statue once stood just to the north west of the Lincoln Park Conservatory at Fullerton and what I think is Stockton Drive. It has since been moved to the Midway Plaisance adjacent to the University of Chicago.

It has to be the same statue-it appears like it was moved in 1976 from the pictures I was able to Google.

However none of the modern pictures I can find of it show the statues of the women that are on the base of the pedestal. I wonder why they were removed?

This has to be the same statue.
