Hong Kong and Tokyo are cities I would live in, but neither are NEW Asian Megacities. They have perhaps already peaked. Shanghai, Dubai, Kuala Lampur, etc. are just hitting full stride--and have ushered in a strange new urbanism that is kind of frightening.

Well, Shanghai is more of Tokyo's ilk. It was way ahead of Hong Kong through the first half of the past century. But it headed down a different set of rails in 1949 and therefore took big detour.

My father goes to Shanghai at least once a year on business. He said its a putrid nightmare, and based on what Ive seen/heard him talk about, Id have to agree with him. It might be growing like a weed, but its still not desireable to most people. Its an overcrowded, overpolluted, traffic-mess, nightmare according to him.
