Would I get busted bad in Chicago for fake License Plates? I do favors for my landlord, and he goes to other cities around America buying Mercedes Benzes and exports them to Lebanon for a markup profit. But then he takes the license plates off from these cars from various cities. I'm thinking of grabbing some of these plates and putting them on my rarely used Chicago cars so I won't have to do yearly stuff like stickers and registration. I once had 4 cars in Chicago and it was so expensive!

Right now, I have 3 cars -

99 Civic HX - main high mpg daily driver, has officially registered Texas plates to me
99 Grand Caravan Sport - cargo hauler / moving van - official plates to me in IL
93 Mazda MX6 LS V6 - my toy sports car, unnecessary, - might put the fake plates on this, keep uninsured and parked on the street. Right now it has official IL plates and stickers, but they're outdated.

It'd be a problem -
if stopped driving by a cop with bad plates - what'll happen?
if they tow the car to a pund with bad unmatching plates - what'll happen?

Are there Chicago or IL laws against using license plates not registered to you or your car?

Don't be stupid. The fines and everything else would cost more than legit plates. You WILL get caught eventually. You don't even have to get pulled over, don't forget about parking tickets.

UH, yeah!! They will probably impound your car in addition to the fines, etc.

If you don't use the cars, put them in a storage lot or....better yet....sell them! (how about to that landlord to sell overseas?)

They'll drive you to a vacant building somewhere on the far south side and beat you.

Um, yes, of course you will get busted. Sell your cars or register them legally.

Look at it this way: The city checks plates by driving past and running plates through a computer. If your car is not invisible, sooner or later you will be in dutch.

If you think you will not get busted in Chicago (or most other places for that matter) for these things you must not really be from Chicago or are very naive.

You sound more and more shady by the moment, Jesse69. If you live in Houston, why do you need fake license plates for your Chicago cars? If you're not driving them, you don't need license plates at all. You don't even need to register them. And I can't fathom why any one person would need that many cars.

So, why do you have three cars? How could you possibly afford that expense?

If you are going to be driving with fake license plates, always keep a key of coke in the car to bribe the cops with in case they ever pull you over.
