I was going to take a trip to Chicago this summer and I was wondering what is the best street to be able to see both the south and north sides of the city and also a good view of the skyline?

that would be lake shore drive. hopefully it's a nice day when you do it. Pick up the song "lake Shore Drive" by aliotta-haynes-jeremiah and blast it with the windows down. The two best views (IMHO) are

1)driving south while you're in Lincoln Park--that view's been in a bunch of movies and you'll probably recognize it

2) the view from promontory point near the science museum in Hyde park

I think your best bet is a lakefront cruise on a boat (the Seadogs are really cool). Thats the best view of the city, East of Navy Pier about 1/2 mile out on the lake.
