This may be a silly question, but here goes nothing!

My husband and I recently moved here and we belong to the sector of Chicagoans that survive sans car. I've noticed on the bus that a lot of little old ladies have these carts that they use to transport their goods [groceries, etc]. They are tall rectangular wire carts with two big wheels on the bottom.

Man, we sure could use one of those! Where can I acquire one?!

Thanks pals!

Try the local hardware store. Ace, True Value, HWI, NOT THE ORANGE BOX OF DOOM -- they don't know from nothin'!

I think you might find a spiffy one at Container Store, but as the simple ones are abut $30 and do the job....

Very popular.

I got my "granny cart" from Target for around $30. I had a similar cart that lasted for years (used it back in the day when I lived in the 'burbs and had to walk over a mile uphill/downhill to the nearest store)

make sure you get one w/ 4 wheels (you have to tilt the ones w/ 2 wheels, causing stuff to spill out if the cart is full) and make sure the back wheels are fairly big (easier to manage cracked sidewalks)

I was looking for a "granny cart" to haul musical instruments around in at festivals, and finally found one at K-mart (not a place where I normally shop). I remember that when I lived on the south side, as a kid, my grandma had a similar one that she went to the store with every day. Very useful item, and they fold up for easy storage, too!

My "granny" cart is very useful for when I know I'll be carrying boxes of soda or beer back from the neighborhood Jewel..I don't care how it looks b/c if you don't have a car anymore, then these things can be a lifesaver if not a backsaver..lol

Once upon a time every bungalow and three flat had folded-up granny cart on a nail by the back door or porch!

In addition to hardware stores, I have seen them at Jewel in Lakeview (and I imagine other Jewel stores in the city carry them also).

Now, they have them with plastic liners & covers so that your stuff doesn't get wet when you are shlepping it home (especially in the snow).

x2 for the Container Store. There is one located at North & Sheffield. I recommend purchasing a cart with swivel front wheels. I browse the grocery store like Mario Andretti races Formula 1.
