I know it's a long shot with the economy the way it is but what places should I suggest to a buddy when it comes to possibly finding seasonal employment right now? Retail, fast food maybe?

Try Macy's, they are always looking for seasonal help

Retail is the best bet for seasonal work, but by now retailers have already staffed up for this season. There could be a few opportunities where the original seasonal hires didn't pan out. But you're talking only a couple of weeks of work at this point -- the seasonals get cut pretty quickly after Xmas.

Even retail is tough this year. I have a friend who has worked at Nordstrom's for years and was recently laid off. He hasn't been able to find a job for months now.
