This is a rough draft of one bus route I myself envisioned and created:

Name:Elston/Clybourn (or Blue Line/Metra/Red Line) Circulator

================================================== =====
Counter clockwise bus:

Starts at Belmont Blue Line CTA station.

Then east on Belmont.

Then south on Elston.

Stops near Clybourn Metra station.

Then east on North.

Stops near Clybourn Red Line CTA station.

Then north on Clybourn.

Then west on Belmont.
================================================== =======

Clockwise bus:

Starts at the Belmont Blue Line CTA station.

Then east on Belmont.

Then south on Clybourn.

Stops near Clybourn Red Line CTA station.

Then west on North Ave.

Then north on Elston.

Stops near Clybourn Metra station.

Then west on Belmont.

Let me know what you all think of this.

I used to ride the Clyborn bus, and, while useful and missed, wasn't what I was referring to. Buses don't simply have to run down a single street, they can make turns, etc. There should be some buses that allow access between neighborhoods which aren't directly east/west or north/south of each other without having to go downtown first.

Did you read the details of one of my proposed bus routes at all?

You can always catch a connecting bus. Having buses turn down routes already covered by other routes is redundant.

And waiting around for 1/2 an hour for the connecting bus sucks. My criticism of Chicago's transit system is that it does not make it easy and efficient to get from one neighborhood to the next. I've been riding public transportation here for 15 or so years, and connecting between two buses is the 2nd slowest way to get someone, after walking.

Waiting half an hour for a connecting bus is not a route problem, it's a frequency problem. It may suck (as if waiting half an hour is the norm rather than an extreme), but that doesn't change the fact that what you're essentially asking for is redundant coverage just to spare you the inconvenience of waiting for a connecting bus. If you want to speed up neighborhood-to-neighborhood service, the best way to do it is to create neighborhood-to-neighborhood rail corridors or to create dedicated bus rights-of-way. Adding redundant bus coverage on existing streets won't do what you want; it will just mean buses crawling along on a different street than it was crawling along on before it hung a left.

must be luck. I lived at George & Damen for years and walked around late all the time, but I'm also big enough that in general people don't just mess with me for no reason - although one Halloween I walked by there at 3 am in a Riddler costume and I did get a few howls.

I have been saying that for YEARS!

They should have smaller buses for all kinds of routes, but especially for late night ones when there's usually 1 - 5 on the bus, tops.

Speaking as someone living a block from the Belmont Blue Line stop, that's mad genius at work there.
