We are beginning our search for a prom dress - live in suburbs of Chicago but would love to look in the city - any suggestions on some good places to shop for a dress? Thanks for any suggestions!

When I was shopping with my daughters for prom dresses and later college formals, Peaches was the place to go (and we had been everywhere!) Prom dresses: best 2009 Prom dresses, formal, homecoming and quinceanera gowns from the top designers. Located in Chicago, Illinois
I know it seems crazy, not the best ambiance, but the best selection - it's location is 5915-17 South Archer Avenue in Chicago. We met moms and daughters from Iowa, Missouri and Ohio while waiting in line. The salespeople definitely know their business and their seamtress altered a size 9/10 dress to fit my size 3/4 daughter perfectly.

Mamama Mia - That place is impressive, but holy cow, prom dresses are expensive.

(paid $35 for her prom dress in the 80's and had her grandmother alter it)

You shop for dresses too? Wow, didn't know you were a fellow crossdresser!

How about Macy's?

I thought that, too, until we began shopping for wedding dresses when our oldest daughter became engaged.

Nope. All of my ex-wives and ex-girlfriends liked Filene's.

So here's me being suburban and lame, but I got both my prom dresses (and several homecoming dresses) at David's Bridal. http://www.davidsprom.com/index.jsp

Even I think those dresses at Peaches are pretty darn pricey for a high school kid.
