As of about 10 minutes from now, that car is going to have no plates and a concealed VIN #.

Right on. And if that's legal, why would expired tags not be?

I really fail to grasp the idea that it'd be "fair game". Where's that coming from?

I didnt see the ordinance you posted. After reading it, would appear you might have a case.

But your prior rationale that it isnt the cops' business because it was parked in your driveway is pretty flawed. Your house isn't like "base" in a game of tag.

Then again, i could be completely off base.

No, it's not flawed. The statute specifically requires that the vehicle be parked on a public roadway to be in violation of the ordinance. My car is not parked on a public roadway and therefore it is not in violation of the ordinance. I have no idea what you mean by "a game of tag." My car was not in violation of the ordinance and the ticket is bull$#&t. Period. And the agent who wrote it either knows it or should know it, and if he doesn't, he has no business enforcing parking ordinances if he doesn't even know what is and is not a violation of them. Like I said, I never get these dick-tickets from cops who have other things to do than gin up violations for revenue. I only get them from Dept. of Revenue agents.

I guess you're right. In my mind I was thinking more along the lines of if you had been driving on the road w/ expired tags, a cop observed this, you pulled into your driveway, and then he issues you a ticket..which he could do.

But after thinking about it I agree with you.

Yeah, I guess I wasn't clear on that. This was not a moving violation, it was a parking ticket.

A vehicle sitting on a private driveway can have expired plates and it is no one's, including the states, business.

As a relative newcomer here, I am amazed at the passivity of Illinois people. They put up with such crap from their own governments (both state and city). What a bunch of spineless wimps live here.

Time for a revolution but I cannot imagine that happening (Although it sure would be fun!!)
The "Revolution" wouldn't break in your favor, believe me.

...the crack FUND RAISERS over in the City's Department of Law have ordinances PROHIBITING the presence of a functional vehicle in plain view with out plates. After all, it ain't in STORAGE if you can see it, would want the City looking like some hillbilly's front yard...

What's that tune I hear? Is it Drover fought the law and the law won ???

Perhaps you should put a tarp over your car with Patrick Fitzgerald's likeness painted on it. Those grimy patronage workers wouldn't go near it.

Call Alderman Mell. Better yet meet with him in person. Trust me it will go a long way.
