Is that area safe? I read that the average apartment around there is around $250 a month... it just makes me wonder.

I have a friend who just paid $440K for a nice but not huge condo there (44th and Berkley). I can see that the area is a mixture of run down apartments and beautiful new developments. The new stuff isn't cheap at all. No idea what the old stuff costs. I can guarantee that the $250 number is pretty meaningless any way you look at it.

I just went down the block of 43rd between Drexel and Ellis today. There is a rather large new condo building on the northwest corner of Ellis and 43rd. Looked pretty nice. Next to that is an abandoned storefront. No other new builds on that block.
