Get realy. I don't think someone becoming poor or homeless is the Catholic Church's responsibility... They already do plenty for them and most of them are from other religions anyways... If I were donating thousands to the church every year like many chicago families, I'd rather have the intact cathedral to worship in, and also I'd welcome bums to share in the worship too and have food as they currently can... you should be lucky the church isn't some other religions that turn their backs to people starving to death in their home countries!

Kudos to the firefighters! I saw them interviewed on this evening's news - their efforts saved a magnificient Chicago architectural masterpiece.
We are not of the Catholic faith, but have worshipped and attended weddings at Holy Name and will be making a donation toward the restoration.

I drove by there this afternoon. The damage did not look too bad.

I heard that all the weddings scheduled at HN will be accomodated at St. James, the Episcipal Cathedral.

There are enough churches in Chicago (and in the school next to the cathedral) to accommodate any wedding planned for Holy Name in a Catholic facility.

But yet they are going to an Episcopal facility... (St. James). A good friend of mine is getting married at St. James this year, and I wonder if he will now have a double-booked Saturday!

I imagine the HNC weddings will be fitted around the already scheduled ones at St. James. The wonderful thing about using St. James (aside from its beauty) is that its still the same neighborhood. I'd hate to have to schedule my wedding in some unfamiliar area. I wouldn't want to get married at a school ether.

Its really nice to see interfaith cooperation.

Me, too.
It is wonderful that other churches in the area are working in cooperation with Holy Name. St. James is a beautiful church!

So sad; this was my church when I lived in Chicago. So whats the state of the church? Is the damage reparable?
