Planning a group of 8 to 10 people to visit Taste of Chicago in July, looking for the best group rates for hotels?

Looking to stay in the DownTown area for the Taste of Chicago July 3-5.
I know a lot of Hotels for those dates are blacked out all year round, due to the Taste of Chicago.

Anyone know of any great rates for a group of 8 to 10 people during that time?

Also, have heard of people renting their Condos or Townhomes out for the Summer, considered Vacation Rentals.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

sorry to break this out to ya, but the whole thing is highly overrated and over priced.

Oh it's not so bad.

I came to TOC once in the early 90's. Being from out of town, I thought it was great fun!

To the OP: You might have some luck if you check out www.vrbo.com (http://www.vrbo.com - broken link) or www.vacationrentals.com

Craigslist also has some listings for people subletting

actually in 2008 by the end of TOC, shooting had already started and two reported injured seriously. it was suspected of gang violence, but still I would never want to go there. You can google it

I did think as I was posting that it's been so long since I've been, it may have changed since then. That's too bad.

Oh please, it hasn't gotten like that, lol. The incident did happen last year. You had over a million people in the park at that time, it's not like they're sitting around shooting at tourists. It was a gang shooting in the south loop about 5 blocks from the Taste.

It's certainly not normal, and 95% of the people visiting that day had no idea it happened, even most of those there at that time. Not that it wasn't horrible and the city has problems - but you sound like someone is walking through the festival shooting randomly at people.

The downtown area is overwhelmingly safe as far as the number of visitors, and while I'm not a huge fan of the Taste because of the crowds, there are a hundred other things to do over that time frame.

The city is great to visit in early July, regardless of the taste.

Oh good! That's good to know! Since I'll be there in July, I'd like to check it out again.

I've never understood the allure of the Taste. Its usually 90+ degrees, packed to the gills with nowhere to sit, and extremely overpriced. At the same time, you could go to any one of the restaurants featured there and have a full serviced meal at a fraction of the cost...without the crowds or the heat.

I dunno. it might be fun if you're from out of town...but you couldnt pay me to enter that sea of humanity.

I agree. Taste sucks. I used to work across the street from Grant Park, and it drove me nuts every year when taste came around. Then some bucket bangers in our alley decided to shoot someone and hit a tourist from Michigan. I had passed those same guys literally hours before the shooting. Good times.

And why do suburbanites insist on pissing in the subway stations during taste? It's like they think anything goes when you're "in the city". It's bad enough from the homeless dudes.
