I was reading a thread about the Chicago metro area and one poster said that southwestern Michigan might become part of Chicagoland. If that happens, should there be a bridge over Lake Michigan? I think I-55 would be perfect. There is a similar bridge of what im talking about in New Orleans called the Causeaway. The bridge would start in downtown where 55 alreadys ends and cross over the lake and end at I-94 in Michigan. Should it happen??

No way. Just, no.

Have you ever been to the wonderful little resort towns (especially St. Joseph) in Michigan that would be obliterated by such a project? And the cost would be ridiculous.

Also! the last thing this country needs is ANY more expressways.

It will never happen. The cost would be unbelievable.

How about we fix the ones we have that are in poor repair before building more?? How about that?

And building bridges across the great lakes is the silliest thing I've ever heard.

Do you have any idea how big and turbulent Lake Michigan is? And deep? It would be nearly impossible to construct this bridge. That tiny thing in New Orleans would be a joke in comparison.

From what I read in the other thread about SW Michigan becoming part of the Chicagoland suburbs, St. Joseph, Sawyer, and New Buffulo will be miles and miles of subdivisons with soccer moms and a few business men Instead of " little resort towns". With the bridge, these people can get to downtown easier instead of taking I 80/94 and sitting in truck traffic forever.

Agreed, but a bridge across LK Michigan would be fun to drive on at least.

I know that Lake Michigan is about 40 miles across, but for the deepness, they can build a suspension bridge.
