Where in the World is Bridgeport? (Chicago: neighborhood, living in, to move)

I was recently in St. Louis visiting a friend who had moved from Chicago, and he was describing the neighborhood we were in as, "the Logan Square of St. Louis" because of the musicians, bars, latin American heritage, and general one foot off the beaten path vibe. Tho that beaten path is getting a lot more wear by the year.

So I asked him, being that I live in Bridgeport, where's the Bridgeport of St. Louis?

You can draw these lines, right, between a place like Wicker Park and Williamsburg or Old Town and Back Bay in Boston, what are some more of them? If I was going to move from here to there, what's the place with the softest landing?

What's Bridgeport? I dunno, guess it's different for different people. Working class, long time residents, mix of owners and renters, not dominated by any specific ethnic or really economic class. Not the place you go for a night out but certainly not a place with nothing to do. Doesn't have to be baseball or the art center. I see just as many Police officers living in Bridgeport as I do punks.

Doesn't have to be Bridgeport either, I'm just looking out my window. Ever been to a different city and be like, huh, this feels familiar?

Is there somewhere in St. Louis where city workers live alongside the family of a boss politician? If so, that'd be it.

Very lively with the hip young crowd, art galleries, ethnic eateries and close to downtown.


Considered a "hot" area.
