I am doing research for my autobiography and would like to obtain information and photos related to the North Avenue-Larrabee YMCA in Chicago (boy's department) and their camp programs during the years from 1936 through 1944. I attended two YMCA camps: Camp Duncan, 1938 and Camp McClean, 1939-1942. This is the "Y" were Johnny Weismuller, "Tarzan", learned to swim!!

My wife and I have made numerous visits to my old neighborhood in recent years. The last time we visited (2008) I was saddened to find that this YMCA had been torn down. But that's the nature of growth and progress!

Thanks. Arne21

Some info for anyone who is interested:
Lane Tech used to be located near there (1225 North Sedgwick Street) before the new building at Addison and Western was built in the 30's.

Johnny Weismuller attended High School at Lane Tech (the old building).:-)

This is from a year after your 1944 date, but I am looking at a typed program for The Florence Music School violin and piano recital to be held on June 20, 1945-3p.m. YMCA North Avenue & Larrabee. I know this might sound strange, but I am an American living in Japan that collects instruments. I just received a violin from someone in Toledo, Ohio that had this program stashed under the padding in the case. There is a list of names of all the performers and the pieces they were to play. If you would like a copy of this program, please let me know.

Default Larrabee YMCA in Chicago

My father left an album of his days as a counselor at the North Avenue Larrabee YMCA...his job while he attended George Williams College in Hyde Park. Many pictures of camp life, both summer and winter, both campers and other counselors.
