I'm not sure from your post how far West you are talking about, but the areas around California between Logan and Milwaukee are fine. In addition to places at California/Logan (Hatchi's, Starbuck's, Provenance, Rustik, Buena Terra) there are a number of places opening by Milwaukee/California.

That is definitely in one of the nicest parts of Logan Square. But you do have to still be a bit more careful in Logan Square. I'd say it's less safe than Lincoln Park or Lakeview, but more safe than Humboldt Park. I'd put it in the same category as Uptown or Rogers Park in terms of personal safety. The stats back me up.

The Lathrop Homes are east of the Chicago River along Clybourn. I'd say it's less than a mile.

Default oh gawd

Don't listen to the nay-sayers. uptown has 3X the violent and sex crime of the California triangle in a given year. The rapist is moving closer and closer to dowtown when he strikes, last strike was in 3 blocks of Wicker Park, the park...

I also just said that crime part to ensure continued argument AF!

Default Not as bad as uptown

They aren't as bad as uptown's bangers though.

Wrong!

If you're going to cherry pick the nicest part of the neighborhood, I could do that with Uptown too.

Here are the 2007 numbers from the CPD Annual Report:

Murder: Uptown-5 Logan Square-5
Criminal Sexual Assault: Uptown-18 Logan Square-32
Robbery: Uptown-192 Logan Square-287
Burglary: Uptown-239 Logan Square-748

Uptown has about 75% of the population of Logan Square, but that doesn't quite make up for the crime difference. Logan Square is more crime-infested than Uptown, hands down--in spite of the Uptown homeless people that seem to creep people out more than Logan Square gang-bangers for some reason.

By the way, that burglary number for Logan Square is REALLY high. I'd get an alarm system if I were you.

Ok for respect for you lookout I'll stop posting about Uptown. AF was my intended target. But I see you avoided my comments on violent crime... Also I was talking about Palmer Square area/california triangle (PS/CT), which it turns out is a separate neighborhood per everyblock crime. And if you count them against each other Uptown is similar in population to PS/CT, with way way more crime...
