You know how certain cities have certain events unique to their city that everyone takes notice of?

NYC: Macy's Parade
LA: Oscars
Detroit: Auto Show
Dallas; TX State Fair
Houston: Livestock and Rodeo Show
San Fran; San Fran Pride and/or Chinese New Year Parade

Anyone know which one Chicago's is?

Lolopalooza (yeah, I butchered the spelling!) though I don't think that's not a homegrown Chicago event like the Taste

Chicago, like NYC has several...
depends what your interests are ...

Taste of Chicago (no real comparison)
Jazz Festival (competes w/ N.O. and Montreux)
Blues Festival (competes with not sure)
Lollapalooza (competes with Coachella)
Pitchfork Media Festival (if you are in the indie scene)
Irish Parade (competes with Boston)

I've been to a couple of the pub crawls here and have never participated in anything similar in another major city. though they are intended for a target group (winos like me) they are certainly unique to chicago.
