I want to rent a furnished 1 BR/Studio for July maybe part of Aug. I'll have my car so something with off-street parking would be ideal. Will be commuting to the Southside unless I can find something relatively safe in the area. Any advice?

Google "furnished apartments in Chicago." Once you have found one in your price range ask about the neighborhood in this thread.

You could always stay at an extended stay hotel as well.

Finding a sublet for a summer month should be fairly easy on Craigslist. The place to live obviously depends where exactly you're going to work.

If you're going to be commuting to the South Side, look for sublets in Hdye Park. Hyde Park is a safe neighborhood on the south side and since it's home to the University of Chicago, I'd expect many sublets to be available.

Not a fun neighborhood, but since you have a car you can get up to the north side or downtown easily. Hyde Park does have some good cheap eats, jogging and biking on the lakefront, and a few other things to do so you'll have a nice time living there for a month. It's not a good choice for a single person long-term, though. Better for families.

Thanks to you all. Hyde Park did catch my attention. The advertised sublets do seem reasonably priced and it looks like a good location for a short stay. I'm trying to perfect my lead in Chicago-Style Steppin' and the classes/instructors are located mostly in the southside.
