This is FAAAAAAAAR from the truth. You were complaining particularly about income tax. But there are 41 U.S. states with a state income tax bracket higher than Illinois' 3% flat rate.

As for the total tax burden including local taxes and taxes besides income, the non-partisan Tax Foundation ranks Illinois ranks 30th in per capita total tax burden. Go look up the data and educate yourself.
The Tax Foundation - State and Local Tax Burdens: All Years, One State, 1977-2008

"Ah," you're thinking, "but this is for the whole state of Illinois, and Chicagoland's tax burden is higher." But keep in mind per capita means average per citizen and most of Illinois' citizens live in Chicagoland.

I also am one who has moved away from Illinois and I have no regrets what so ever. It really seems like there is no end with the Taxes there. The people who live there keep putting up with it and thats what I do not understand. You may ask "What am I to do"? The first thing would be dont vote them back in or if that does not work the other choice would be move.

after seeing the documentary IOUSA, I am surprised that more people aren't begging to pay higher taxes, but again, this is coming from someone who has only been in the US for four years and IL for two.

yeah, apparently you don't get it.
Big government and rampant taxation isn't what made America great.

That has got to be one of the most ignorant statements I've come across on this board yet.

I'd tell you to move to Wisconsin but our taxes are some of the highest in the country. Our cig tax is going up by 75cents for a total $2.75 per pack. Our gas tax is one of the highest at 52 cents a gallon. You see what happens when your state is consistently blue.

Yes I am on the edge too. I am really considering it. I cant stand it but I really to love chicago and all it has to offer but whats the point when you paying out of your pockets to do anything. Chicagoland region in general is turning into communist state. There are laws on everything and the taxes are so high its unbelievable. Highest sales tax in the country. thats great!!!

Eh. The blue states as a whole have higher incomes, better education systems and better educated citizens, more stable families, longer life expectancy...on average. To me these things are more than worth paying for.

Don't want to start a flame war. There are some miserable parts of blue states and some lovely parts of red states. And none of us want to see our tax dollars wasted.
