Ive meet so many women lately that are terrified of driving downtown, being downtown, being around a lot of people downtown..Its odd..

These are grown women who have gone through child birth more than once and driving downtown or taking the train is what terrifies them..

Am I the only one who meets women like this, or are there lots more out there?

There are plenty of people who just don't like being outside of their little comfort zone. I know lots of city dwellers who can't stand driving to the burbs b/c they don't follow the grid system and it's easy to get lost, for example.

In all my years living here the only woman I met who was "terrified" of going downtown was my Grandma.

they probably don't want to deal with homeless people and panhandlers on every block. they're probably not used to seeing people go up to a garbage can for lunch. they're probably not used to walking by certain areas and smelling a mix of urine and alcohol, etc.

Hah. I once got hopelessly lost trying to drive to Schaumburg in a snow storm. That was 8 years ago, and I haven't attempted it since.

I have met plenty of suburbans who maybe aren't terrified of the thought of going downtown, but just never really feel like going downtown. Every time the idea of going downtown comes up, they say something like "It's going to be too crowded", or "I don't feel like going all the way there".

Yes. THere are many suburbanites who just don't view the city as part of their sphere of activity, so its literally like planning a weekend trip to take the train and do something in the city proper.
