Im visiting Chicago in about 3 weeks and I'm looking for a reliable cab company to take me from Ohare to Wabash and Ontario. From what I've been told most cab companies will prob run about $45 and im prepared to pay, but i'd like to find something cheaper if possible. any help would be greatly appreciated

Take the the CTA Blue Line to the Grand stop and pay 2.25. Then take a cab to your final destination. You will pay around $10 total for the cab and the train.

^^^ What Avengerfire said. Otherwise, it might be hard to find a cab company with a (much) lower rate

Cab fares are determined by city ordinance. It will cost the same (save minor variations depending on route) no matter which cab company you use, so there's no use in shopping around. In fact I think there's a flat rate for O'Hare to downtown, again set by ordinance. If you want to save some dough, take the train as others have suggested.

Or just take the blue line all the way to the loop. the lake stop will put you about 4 or 5 blocks from where you need to be. Are you staying at the Silversmith?

There is a taxi line outside on the same level as baggage claim. That's how most locals going downtown get their cabs. You will be assigned the next available cab.

I don't know anyone who tries to make a reservation for a particular cab company (although some suburbanites do that to avoid city cabs which hate going to suburbs).

Otherwise, follow the signs in the terminal to "rapid transit" and you can take the blue line to the city and then a cab to your final destination. Since O'Hare is the final stop of the blue line, you won't have to worry about getting on the wrong train as they all go in the right direction (and blue is the only color train that comes to O'Hare...so very easy to navigate).

Good luck whatever you decide.

I really enjoy the cabbies that won't take your fare with a credit card even though you are going 3 miles!!!

At the airport cab lines, you can also request a "ride share" to the Loop. They will put you in a cab with other people traveling to the loop and charge you a flat fee of about $18 (I believe). It's cheaper than taking a cab by yourself, but I still recommend taking the blue line as others have suggested. It is by far the cheapest way to get downtown from O'Hare and during rush hour, it will probably be faster too.
