Thanks for the info. They seem to be a place that doesn't have a "one main entree per person" rule, either. Admittedly, I feel like a bit of a cop-out though going to a chain restaurant when we're new to the city and trying to experience the quintessential Chicago institutions first.

Gibson's I know is out though (one main entree per person rule). Chop House doesn't seem to have this rule, though again they don't post their prices online and it scares me a bit.

Binary, I wouldn't recommend going to a chain anyway. Send your money to local businesses. You'll probably get more personal attention and a better meal out of it for your trouble. Steakhouses are a dime a dozen in this city so you shouldn't have a problem finding a non-mortons/ruth chris.

Avengefire:

We actually went to Rosebud's three weeks ago with his parents. I'm a little confused about the structuring of the restaurant: How is Carmine's different that the main gig? When I look through the menu, it looks identical to the one we had at dinner at Rosebud's.

The location. They are owned and ran by the same person.

So what are you saying? You guys did not like the food?

The Chop House - best steaks in the city, but might be a little out of that price range.

If you are willing to go to the burbs try Hackney's in Glenview or Wheeling. The Hackney's in Chicago does not serve steak as far as I know for some reason.

I started out reading this thread and thinking "$150 for a goddamn piece of dirty meat? What in the world?"

And then I thought, "What did I order when I dined out? I always ate out."

But I never paid. I chaired many a committee for Chicago chefs, restaurants and bakeries. I can't remember actually paying a bill.

And then I thought, "When was the last time I had food with a cocktail?"

And then I made myself sad
