Ive been wondering this for a while and everyone I asked is a little sure themselves. So theres a charge to valet your car.... Do you pay when you drop off your car or do you pay when you pick it up? Ive only valeted at hotels where they include it in your bill or free valet where you would just tip... So you go out to a resturant how does that work out....?

I skip valets entirely. When I went to Ed Debevics that required a valet parking just to eat there, I went back there later by bike.

they give you a ticket and you pay when you leave, typically when they pull your car up.

this reminds of me when one night i was quite literally stumbling drunk out of The Note (now known as yuppie/hipster bar The Flat Iron) and a couple came up to me and said "Are you the valet?"

do most valet drivers in Chicago look like stumbling drunks??

More proof you're not really from Chicago. No Chicagoan would be caught dead in Ed Debevic's, unless they were bringing some kids or something.

The real question is how much to tip the guys. I only ever give them a couple of bucks, but worry I'm being cheap... I hardly ever valet. I'm more of a cab person in the nice dinner out situation.

Maybe you and Avengerfire are some Internet Idiots who always get on the case of somebody because you think you're some righteous god. Like I have no reason to lie or shyster some crap here... I telll the truth and I ain't putting people on.

I really do live in Wicker Park, Chicago. But I can't tell you where because my house is packed with 18 bikes [$30,000?] and 120+ skirt suits!

What's wrong with a Chicagoan in Ed Debevic's? But the food wasn't great either...

I think it really depends on where your at/ how nice your car is...
I use to have a nice car so I would tip $20 on drop off and pickup so $40 total.
Now I have a pretty nice car so I tip $5 both ways so 10 bucks.

Id rather pay a couple extra bucks and have them not scratch/dent my car. I rarely do Valet just when I need to when I take clients to lunch or dinner which is not often.
