I'm looking to park my car near an L stop between the NW suburbs and Chicago sometime during waking hours and retrieve it before midnight. Cumberland, Rosemont, and most stations have a $4 minimum parking lot, but I wonder if there is a place to leave my car somewhere else for free. I tried a lot near Cumberland and didn't get towed, but I attribute that to luck. Can anyone help? Are there any free places to park even down in Cicero near the Pink Line stop?

Thanks for any tips.

If you don't mind hoofing it a couple blocks, there's a decent amount of open parking pretty close to the Irving Park stop, on the east side of the Kennedy. Take the Kennedy into town, get off eastbound on Irving Park, turn right on Hmlin, which is the first right you can take after you cross Pulaski, then turn right on Byron. Byron will dead-end into a diagonal street called Parkview Terrace. Parking on Parkview is wide-open and permit-free. There's a pedestrian sidewalk alongside the expressway that will let you walk up to the intersection of Daking and Pulaski. Cross Pulaski and turn left, and the station entrance is about 75 feet south.

Did you make that diagram? Jeez, Drover, gold star!

A bunch of Drover's neighbors are going to hate him in the next few months as this secret spreads...

Come to think of it, I think parking on Irving Park right by the park is unmetered too. Might as well park there.

Glad I could help, but after I put this together it occurred to me that it might be your goal to avoid rush hour traffic jams. Is that what you're looking to do? Because if so, this might not be a practical option...

I still do not know what the OP is looking to do. The parking rates at Cumberland and River Road are pretty reasonable.

Yeah, it might be better to get on the Blue before the Kennedy and Edens merge... Just a thought. I have no idea where to park out that direction, however. Though I've never had a problem finding parking on the Northwest Side. I'm not sure how it's zoned on the residential blocks up there.

I can't tell if he's asking about street parking or lot parking. I would think that street parking would be the only imagineable way to get free parking anywhere in the city.
