When I am in that situation I do not ask. I head straight to the bathroom. Of course I always have a mental list of places where I can go,where the bathrooms are,and if a key is needed.

I would knock over a bunch of people if they tried to stop me!

I have even used women's washrooms if the men's was occupied.

When you gotta go you gotta go.

Most tough guys are just insecure. I can't tell you how many tough guys I've seen in the military cry like school girls when the crap hits the fan.

I'd have to say that chicago doesn't really have mean muggers. People just stay pretty emotionless, off doing their own thing. I actually find chicagoans to be pretty friendly and down to earth and not combatative (except for the "gangsters"), at least compared to a lot of places on the east coast where I'm from. I've seen white guys in suits giving their gloves off their hands to old homeless guys, I've asked for directions on the mag mile and the first person I asked actually answered. That is completely unheard of in some places where I've lived. People here hold the doors open, let ladies go first on the buses, etc. It seems like normal etiquitte but many places are a lot more dog-eat-dog, screw anybody you don't know.
