hi guys,

am glad i finally found somewhere i can unleash my feelings

i am a 26 yr old african that just moved to the united states 2 months ago,

i have a degree in engineering but i have been having lots of problems getting a job, i live with my mom on the south side but i hear there are lots of job opportunities in chicago(north side).i dont mind travelling 1 or 2 hours to work via trains evryday thats how desperate i am

i need help because i am realy getting depressed i am very restless i need to work soon,

how can i start job hunting the right way coz i figure out ive been doing it the wrong way,

i am kinda choosy about the jobs am looking for i.e i want an office job at least to enhance my cv or do i need to start from the scratch...mcdonalds, etc lol hope not , pls note i do not want to continue on the engineering path am ready to have a change in career so any good office job is good enough!

are there any agencies that can help? and if there are , all advices are needed? do i need to pay for services?

pls help me anyone(everyone) thank you.

A 26 year old African GIRL with an engineering degree and you're asking for help? Listen...if you've got a degree in engineering and a good head on your shoulders, the world is your oyster, especially being a "black" female. You certainly will not have to work at McDonalds. I will be relocating to a Northern suburb in about 4 weeks, and I'll be looking for work too. I feel that I'm at a disadvantage as a white male, but I'm not worried. I hear there's plenty of work in the area. Sorry I can't help, besides offer you moral support and to tell you to just walk into an engineering company, walk into a temp agency, or walk into a restaurant to wait tables for tips if you're really desperate...but Mickey D's??? No way Ola!

Definitely start out with the Temp agencies. They were useful to me when I was out of work (but had an advanced degree and plenty of office skills) and while some of my gigs were rather mindless, it wasn't fast food.

about the temp agencies j33 , the problem is no1 around me knws any i could even go to, and the problem with most ppl ive sent my cv to is dat some experience is needed despite the fact that they will still train u. i honestly dont want to lie on my cv like a lot of ppl ...........

i just dont get it! if no1 is willing to at least give u a chance to prove urself for a while, how would they know how good you are ???????????

well wish me all the best and......i need some pals ie texting pals for starters
