Al qaeda plot against Sears Tower (Chicago: office, place, race)

After reading more about this case, I think it is highly unlikely that it could have been carried out. These guys did swear allegiance to Al Qaeda and did have $50,000 in cash - not nearly enough to carry out a plot like this, but someone was funding them.

$50K is like, what... A month or two worth of middle-low level dope scores? I mean, of course it's in "cash". They were petty crooks. It isn't like it's going to be in travelers checks and savings bonds.

The nexus between them and terrorism was virtually non-existent. They became "terrorists" when the government came in and virtue-tested them.
Like idiots with big mouths (or, socially nitwitted adults with immature, teenage mentalities trying to make themselves appear to be something they weren't) they started spouting off a bunch of nonsense that had no basis in reality.

What the government "had" on them was that they ran their mouths. There wasn't any evidence or anything credible to back up what they were saying, other than a few undercover agents were able to get them to "say something" and as a result of the open-ended nature of "conspiracy charges", book the win in court.

These were awful, awful cases.

You're right; actually, American Flight 93 was over Ohio, between Toledo and Cleveland when it made it's u-turn (not too far away from the Detroit area and within 200 NM from Chicago).... Probably less than an hour of flight time would have put it over Chicago... But, no, they had the capitol in wash dc as a target, not the sears tower.

LMAO exactly what I was thinking...I highly doubt that Chicago is on Al Qaida's radar. As much as Chicagoans would love to believe, but Chicago isnt an important enough city to do any damage to.
