Hi Everyone,

Im a 34 single black female who wants to move to a new and exciting city,
I was wondering if anyone could get me some advise on a good neighborhood to relocate to. Im living in Texas now and want to be in a neighorhood close to shopping areas (clothes, shoes, groceries, etc) but also close to good resturants and bars. I'll be making around 50k and would love to have a nice place in a nice area. Any suggestions?

You may want to look into the South Loop. Very close to the loop, lake and there are lots of great restaurants/bars that have been going up there over the past several years.

Thank you so much. What neighborhoods in that area are safe?

Well, the South Loop is itself a neighborhood. The closer you get to Cermak, though, the sketchier the neighborhood becomes. Not that it's really dangerous. In fact, the district police headquarters is in the south end of the South Loop. There isn't as much development down there yet, though that's changing quickly. There are also a couple of public housing projects at State and Cermak. It is an excellent choice, though. 50k should get you a nice one bedroom condo or apartment, maybe a 2 bedroom. There's a Target, supermarkets and drugstores down there, and more retail is coming soon, like Best Buy and Home Depot. You will be near the lake, good transportation options, and minutes away from all of the tourist attractions. Just a few blocks away in the Loop (the core of downtown) you'll find a virtual mall along State Street. Macy's, Sears, H&M, Office Depot, TJ Maxx, Filenes Basement, Borders, Barnes and Noble, and many other large and small shops, as well as restaurants. Also, the Harold Washington Library Center is adjacent to the South Loop. Night spots are concentrated further north on the Near North Side, about a 10 or 15 minute ride on the subway. That area is a lot more expensive and congested though.
