I really can't comment on the waterfront since the times I have been to Chicago are usually during the winter and I went once in the Fall.

I enjoyed walking around Wicker Park, Bucktown, Edgewater, Lincoln park, Wrigglyville when I visited.
I Like the malls here in Metro Detroit, I often go to the westland mall, oakland mall, and the somerset mall.

Ooh, I like Somerset

Chicago's nothing like Detroit. The suburbs are vaguely familiar, because you can compare them directly to those of Detroit.

Other than that, not much else stands alike. We Chicagoans are much more in touch with our city than metro Detroiters are. It's like the people who live around Detroit have no idea that there's this decaying city there.

In some cases that's true, some suburanites stay completely stay out of the city, others are there everyday, no one I know however is clueless to the problems and decay of the city.

Here's to bumping a 16 month old thread!

The best thing about Chicago coming from Southfield is the same Midwest mentality. Lot easier to get along here than if you moved to CA, NY or down south.
