Does anyone know how long it takes to drive from Ohare airport to the indianapolis airport? This would be on a weekend so presumably no rush hour traffic to contend with. Is I-65 the quickest way to go? It doesn't look that far on a map but maps can be deceiving.

No traffic? 3-3.5 hrs. You could either take 90-94 through town or jump on 294 to avoid most of the city, but when it comes to Chicago traffic, there's never a sure bet...

well you could fly...

Google says 3.5 hrs. I think that is optimistic, probably closer to 4 hrs, and if there is construction...

Traffic could double that on a bad day.

Well the congestion is not as bad as when th Dan Ryan or Kennedy were recently torn up (both are now complete) and the souther edge of 294/94/80 is not being reconstructed, but there are routinely back-up due to major work further north near O'hare.

I am pretty sure that 65 is getting some rehabilitation too...

There is shockingly little speed enforcement in most parts of the Chicago metro region, but with congestion maybe they really don't bother...

Yeah. It's not the cops that slow you down. It's traffic. However, once you get onto 65 and clear of Merrillville (if not Gary), it's smooth sailing down to Indy, and in that stretch, speed enforcement picks up, so you'll want to keep it reasonable. However, in the Chicago metro area, I've always pretty much gone as fast as traffic allows. (and, knock on wood, no moving violations yet)

Very true..on a bad traffic day it could take one as long to get from ORD to Merrillville as it will from Merrillville to Indy ...
Speed Enforcement is present on 65, as it's a nice revenue generating route , and , be forewarned that Indiana Traffic Laws allow tacking on reckless driving charges (misdemeanor and FELONY) based on amount over the speed limit.. but Indiana was one of the first states to increase the interstate speed limits to 65 .. I thnk the 'write threshold' is 10 over, but .. It would also be wise to check on summer construction on 65 ..there was some up at the north end around the entrance/junctions from 80 ...

Actually the speed limit on Indiana expressways is 70 in rural areas. I cruise at 75 and really had no troubles in Indiana as long as there are no impediments in your way.

Thanks..you're right ..Indiana upped it to the limit ..I remember the scuttlebutt about the 'true limit' on the tollroad and 65/69 was that 75 was pretty safe, close to 80 was pushing it ..
It' such a letdown to cross from Indiana into Ohio.. that's where it drops to 65, and they are real b*stards about enforcement ...
