Just moved to Chicago and live on Jarvis st in Rogers Park. I've only been here a few weeks and everything is going good so far. TOday @ work some girl told me that Jarvis was a bad street. Should I be worried???? I'm white female (so is my roomie)
Thanks!

There are certain blocks along Jarvis That you have to be more aware of your surroundings. I would say use your common sense and always be careful if you have to walk alone at night. Carry mace just to be safe. Don' t mean to scare you but any neighborhood in the city poses more of a threat to young single women. Just be safe. Enjoy yourself and Good Luck. Make sure you take advantage of all the city has to offer in these upcoming Spring, summer and fall months. You're gonna love it!

Rogers Park is probably the spottiest neighborhood on the North Side. Some of it is fantastic, some of it is a pit, and you can change from one to the other and back to the first in the space of just a few blocks. And there doesn't seem to be any pattern, rhyme or reason to it, except that the Sheridan corridor along the lakefront seems to be consistently the safest area until you get up by Howard. The area around the Howard stop is one of the more spotty areas. Being on Jarvis puts you pretty close to the action. Keep your eyes open and try not to walk alone at night by yourself.

It might be instructive to read this post from a five-year Rogers Park resident, including his (her?) experience living on Jarvis.

Where on Jarvis are you. West Rogers Park, Jarvis is fine. It can be hit or miss the further east you go.

I must have driven past your place today to go check out Poitin Still. My opinion of Rogers Park remains exactly the same: great one block, crappy the next, and for no apparent reason...
