I need to get a temporary cell phone for about 3 months. Does anyone know of any good deals/companies where I can get a temporary phone with no contract where you pay month to month? Has anyone had experience with Cricket? Thanks!

I use Virgin Mobile. You can order a basic cheapie phone from their website as little as $10. They have the best pay-as-you-go rates that I've found so far.

i got a cheap net10 phone with 300 minutes and an additional 300 minute refill card for $22 total. the initial 300 minutes are good for 60 days and same for the refill. also if you are familiar with the bing cashback (formerly live cashback) you can get 35% off of tmobile pay as you go phones which sometimes come with $25 refill cards making the phone and refill less than $25.

BTW, curious, what do you need a "temporary" cell phone for?

I am not the OP, but I have needed temp phones three times now. Once I needed one to leave an abusive relationship, since I knew my phone was in his name and he could cut it off (or keep it in his name and monitor my calls, which he did) after I left. He would call irate asking what man I was calling in Baltimore. It was my DAUGHTER's number. He said it wasn't what he had in his phone for her and she admitted that before we left, she put in a recorded movie theatre listing number in place of her number in his phone.

Second time, a friend who "doesn't believe in" cell phones was flying into town. Since we had not seen one another in years, I had no clue how we would find each other in a busy airport. So I got HIM one of these phones to use for the trip.

I am currently involved with a criminal case that is likely to get national attention. I am a victim in the case, but have been forewarned that media may need a contact number for me. If I am going to put a phone number out nationally, I'd prefer it NOT be the cell phone number I have had for 6 years, recently having disconnected my land line. If some crackpots start calling, I want to be able to ditch the number quickly and don't want to lose my regular number. especially since I just enetered a 2-year contract.

That's three times, none illegal.

I agree that Virgin Mobile is the way to go for this.
