I would suggest the Gage, it's the best bar in the area, and you won't need a cab, it's right there within walking distance of the taste and your hotel.

Believe it or not, the bar in the Congress Hotel is a pretty happening spot. A group of girlfriends and I stayed there a few weeks ago for a bachelorette party, and we ended the night there. It was packed.

Also there is a new place not far away on Wabash called the Titled Kilt. I have never been there though, so I can't vouch for it.

The Tilted Kilt in the Garland Building ..it's a 'chain' of sorts with somewhat scantily clad servers in, you guessed it, kilts ..it's getting pretty popular with the young male horde ...

The Gage is nice, but veeeeeeeeeeeery pricy...House glass of white wine set me back $12 a few months ago.

If you head a few blocks south, Grace O'Malleys is a nice irish pub, and has some ok food. You can also hop on the Madison bus west and go to WestEnd, which is a GREAT bar.

I would venture to say Blackie's would have the upper hand since it was founded in 1939. The Boston Blackie's chain cannot be that old...

^^ And the above is exactly why I'm surprised there hasn't been a legal wrangle between Blackie's and Boston Blackie's yet. The place Avenger suggested is just plain Blackie's, not Boston Blackie's -- different places. That's OK though, you didn't miss much by not accidentally ending up at Boston Blackie's.

So where did you end up going and how was it?

haha oops I should have been paying closer attention. We just went to Bennigan's and then back to the bar in the hotel. We actually had a really good time at the Park Grill( I think that is what it was called) during the day.
