So I work in Crete, IL and would like to find a small place in Chicago to live. I am looking for something around 150k with a bedroom (no studios) and close to I-94. Work starts at 7:30 so I am assuming there would be minimal traffic leaving the city around 6:45am. Any suggestions on where to begin looking? Also, how is traffic coming into the city around 5pm?

Minimal? At 6:45? Not everyday. There are sometimes delays / backups starting as early as 6AM, on days with bad weather or other unusual snarls, whoa nellic . Even the google maps pegs this as 90 minutes from ORD in traffic...

Yes, ORD is about 30+ minutes northwest of downtown.

Crete is a FAR south suburb, really the next town or two south and most people would say that is "down state" i.e. NOT a suburb, but a distinct region of Illinois...

It is NOT an easy everyday commute from anywhere in Chicago to a job in that area.

It is 30 miles south of the city on 394 parallel with crown point, in. My logic was that I knoew people who drive from valpraiso, in to the city everyday. I would simply be driving straight south out of the city at around 6:30. When I have driven from Crete to the city in the past it has taken roughly 40 minutes. But I have never driven it early morning.
