^^A good starting place is to go through the neighborhoods sections in the pinned stickie thread. There's an insurmountable collection of info in there. Before I moved here I also looked at a bunch of the Dreamtown neighborhood videos on YouTube. They are about 5 or 6 minutes long and give you a gist of what each neighborhood offers. Dreamtown is a realty company so deifinitely don't use that as your only source since in the end they project every neighborhood (even the notice so Leave it to Beaver ones) through rose colored glasses.

Also, check out Craiglist's rental pages sporatically in the coming months to see what rent prices look like and which neighborhoods fit your budget.

Default What a coincidence...

What a small world...I'm a 27-year-old from Atlanta too, and I just moved to Chicago for a new job in June! You'll love it here, I know I do. Atlanta was fun, but ditching your car and living in the thick of things wins hands down. You'll miss Atlanta from December-March, but that's about it. Come on up, and join us!

In terms of neighborhoods, there are many you can choose from, and each has it's own vibe. I live in the Gold Coast/Streeterville area, because I wanted to be close to work in the loop and close to the nightlife. I also wanted a relatively safe neighborhood/apartment building. But there are many other cool neighborhoods that are just as great. Let me know if I can help!

Just wanted to get some feedback on if I should go ahead and move there. Here's a little about me....

I am a female about to be 27. I have a job at a company that I can probably get a job with in Chicago if not....I will find one. I am just getting out of a 3 1/2 year relationship so I am ready for big change. I want to go somewhere that has plenty to do, but without having to spend a whole lot of money all the time. I love to go out to eat and just hang out. I know that's all pretty random facts, but it's what I could think of right now to write up. Thanks!

Thank you for the help. Yes, it is a small world. I am still debating the getting rid of my car thing. I keep hearing that you don't need a car...I have just never been without one, and never been somewhere that you wouldn't need one. The idea of not having a car really freaks me out!

it freaked me out too, but now I never want to own one again. Plus if you really need one for shopping or a trip out to the burbs, there's two methods of car sharing here.
