I have a good feeling the building will remain being called the Sears Tower for a long time by locals and in American culture. I do agree with those that say Willis is brining money INTO the city and is more deserving of the name than Sears due to that. In many ways, the tower will have dual names for a long time in my opinion. In L.A. the tallest tower was called Library Tower due to being adjacent to L.A. Central Library. In 2003 US Bank Corp bought the name rights and stuck their logo on the beautiful crown of the building as US Bank Tower. Most people still call it Library Tower other than the media that must call it by its official name. I think the same thing will happen with Sears Tower. In pop culture it will remain "Sears Tower" even though Sears will no longer be plastered on the lobby.

It will always be the Sears Tower to me.

When I hear Willis, I can't get the visions of "Different Strokes" and Gary Coleman out of my head...

"Whatchoo talkin' 'bout Willis?"

The Sears Tower will always be the Sears Tower.

One can always rename a street or a highway, but to rename a landmark icon is just silly.

An example of this is when Abu Dhabi Investment Council, bought 75% of the Chrysler Building back in 2008; a building in which the named tenant moved out in the 1950s, yet it contiunes to be called "Chrysler" to this day.

Just like I still call US Cellular Field Comiskey Park

Yeah but the Sears Tower is an even better attraction now with its all glass box window.

I was thinking about the Willis Tower name, and completely forgot the fact that Sears had named its legendary radio station WLS (Sears was the original owner) after what Sears was known as - "World's Largest Store". I guess the coincidence of having the tower renamed Willis isn't too far of a stretch from still being the Sears Tower...sort of.
